If your iOS 5.0.1 device is currently stock and you’d like to jailbreak it, now’s the perfect time to do so. This untethered jailbreak comes courtesy of the iPhone Dev Team and, more importantly, @pod2g, the man behind the latest untether. Unfortunately, it doesn’t yet work for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, so those devices will have to wait an unknown amount of time.
Information
The version of redsn0w that was used for this tutorial was redsn0w 0.9.10b1.
To download it, click on your operating system: Windows | Mac OS X
Instructions
Here are the steps:
Open redsn0w.
Click on jailbreak.
Follow the instructions to put your device into DFU mode.
Make sure that “Install Cydia” is checked. Check the other options if they apply to you or if you know what you’re doing.
Click on Next.
The rest of the process will happen on the iDevice itself, and not your computer. That’s basically it; it was that simple.
