Back in February, The Daily reported that Microsoft’s tablet version of Office was completed. Microsoft quickly tried to deny that it ever existed, but today, a close Microsoft source for BGR reported that it’s supposedly set to be released in November, around the time when Windows 8 is expected to be released, which everybody already knows is primarily made for tablets anyway.
BGR also went on to say that Office for iPad might not be specifically for the iPad. Assuming it’s called “Office for iOS,” it might end up being a universal software suite, compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.
Regardless of when it’s released, Office on tablets, other than those which run Windows, will be huge for everyone. Microsoft will sell hundreds of thousands of copies quite quickly, and customers using various tablets will be happy that an official version of Office is available for them (which can end up increasing overall customer satisfaction ratings for the various tablets). Currently, users have to rely on third-party applications that usually feature very slim and feature-less Office compatibility (such as QuickOffice and and Polaris Office).
Microsoft Office 15 is planned on being touch-friendly, and released with Windows 8 or shortly after, all of which is expected to happen towards the end of the year. This could also strengthen BGR’s report.
