The wait is finally over. For those with iOS devices on iOS 5.1.1, you can finally have an untethered jailbreak, thanks to Absinthe 2.0.1 by the Chronic Dev Team. At this point in time, it works a little differently than before, but it’s still fairly easy to do. It’s only a matter of time ’till it’s added to redsn0w, but if you don’t want to wait, you’ll find the Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux download links below, as well as the jailbreak instructions.
Compatible Devices
Currently, this jailbreak supports all variations of the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 1, and the iPad 3. For the iPad 2, this supports everything but the slightly updated model of the Wi-Fi-only iPad 2 (iPad2,4). Support for that one will be added at a later date.

Instructions
- Backup your device in iTunes (right-click on your device in the left sidebar and choose Back Up).
- Once complete, on the device, choose Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Don’t worry, because we’ll be going back to the backup in step 4.
- After that, open up Absinthe 2.0, and click on the Jailbreak button. This process may or may not take a while, so make sure not to disconnect your device.
- Once Absinthe is finished, go back to iTunes, find your device in the left sidebar, right-click on it, and choose Restore From Backup. Choose the backup that you made in step 1, and restore from it.
- Done!
As you can see, this isn’t a “one-click and you’re done jailbreak.” It actually involves a few extra manual steps, but hey, it’s better than nothing, right?
