To buy, or not to buy? Simply put, I’d temporarily hold off on this case (more on that down below). This $29.99 (Amazon) TPU case for the iPhone 4/4S offers a unique design, and comes in a number of different colors, including black, green, clear, red, purple, and blue. While you’ll find the written and video reviews below, the main product page can be found here.
Packaging/What’s Included
Musubo’s packaging is quite excellent. There’s a rubber-band that hides the unlocking mechanism that actually opens the packaging. Once that’s out, you’ll find the case. Within that, you’ll find the included [plastic] video stand, and an instructional sheet that tells you how to use it, although it’s quite self-explanatory. You don’t get any extras, such as a cleaning cloth or screen protector.
The Case
The Double X itself is made of a thick yet soft (sort of a frosted feel) TPU material. This provides for adequate drop protection. Your iPhone will slip easily into and out of the case.
On the front, you’ll find the lay-on-the-table lip, which allows the screen to be lifted up and not actually touch a surface. On the back, you’ll find the unique design. Many cutouts are apparent, and they leave various portions of the back of your iPhone exposed. Because of this, I would highly recommend getting a back film of some sort, probably an anti-glare variant.
For cutouts, you’ll find one for the silent switch, 3.5mm headset jack, bottom mic, 30-pin dock connector, and bottom speaker. On the back, you’ll find the oddly-shaped camera cutout, which has no issues with the LED flash.
Now, it’s time for the “not to buy” part, as mentioned earlier. The volume button covers are just fine, and they provide plenty of feedback. However, the cover for the power button has a huge flaw: It’s constantly pushing down the actual button. I’m putting the blame on the not-long-enough button cover. It simply can’t fit over the entire button, so it just pushes down on it. I’m sure Musubo will eventually get this figured out, and I’m honestly not sure if I received a bad unit, but it’s a bit disappointing.
Conclusion
For the time being, I can’t recommend this case. I’d play it safe and get a different product. While the design is pretty cool and will attract a lot of attention, the power button cover needs to be reworked.
