[Review] Poetic Atmosphere iPhone 5 Case [Video]

Cheap, simple, and slim. That’s what the Atmosphere is all about. Courtesy of Poetic, this case can be had for as little as $13 from Amazon and eBay, while Poetic offers it for about $25. Available in black, red, orange, and purple, this TPU and clear/frosted polycarbonate case combines simple design features in a product that’s well worth the asking price.

Personally, I absolutely love these dead-simple cases. So far, I feel as though this will be one of my favorite cases for the iPhone 5 that I’ll probably ever come across.

For starters, you won’t be getting any fancy packaging or any extras. For me, the case arrived just by itself inside of a little plastic bag. Given the low price of the case, this isn’t surprising, nor should it have been expected.

As mentioned, this case combines TPU with a clear/frosted polycarbonate shell. The TPU liner gives you a modest amount of shock protection, should you drop your phone onto the ground for whatever reason. It also provides you with a lay-on-the-table design so, should you put your iPhone display-down onto a table, it’ll be slightly raised so that it’s not actually touching the table. For the most part, this case should support you quite well for general drops, but nothing too major I imagine. Since the back is clear/frosted, you’ll be able to see through to the back of your iPhone. While I’m reviewing the orange case, I feel as though the black one would’ve looked much nicer with the black/slate iPhone 5, as I have.

Your two volume buttons and power button are all covered with little nubs, all of which provide plenty of feedback when pushing down on them. The silent-switch cutout is nicely sized and easy to get to. The camera cutout on the back is large and causes no issues with the camera’s LED flash. Lastly, there’s one large cutout at the bottom for your 3.5mm headset jack, microphone, Lightning port, and speaker.

Fortunately, this case adds very little bulk and, to be honest, it felt as though there wasn’t any added thickness. The back is ever-so-slightly curved, so the case feels more comfortable when holding it in your hand. Thanks to the little rubber nubs on the back, it’ll lie level when on a table display-side up.

To wrap things up, the Poetic Atmosphere is an excellent case, especially when factoring in its rather low price of just $13 from most websites. This case is very slim, adds a fair amount of protection for your iPhone 5, and looks nice all-around. If you’re in the market for an iPhone 5 case, but don’t want to spend upwards of $35 for name-brand cases (that seems to be the average price for your name-brand cases), then this is one that I would easily recommend taking a look at.

Does the Poetic Atmosphere gather much dust inside the case which would necessitate removing it to clean? Is it easy to scratch the phones’s nice, shiny chamfered edges?

    • besweeet

No, there’s no issue with that, as it’s covering those areas.

Sorry, I meant scratch it while putting and taking off the Atmosphere especially as it is such a tight fit. On my first iPhone, which was a 4, the bumper I had actually scratched the edges badly while just sitting on the phone because of the hard plastic inside the bumper…

No, nothing about the case should/will damage your phone in any way.
