It’s just two weeks until Windows 8 will be launched, both in retail packaging and digital downloads. Earlier today, Microsoft finally unveiled the cost of full Windows 8 purchases. We already know what buyers of new PCs ($14.99 here) and users of supported versions of Windows ($39.99 here) will be paying. Without further ado, here’s the prices.
Windows 8 will cost $99.99, while Windows 8 Pro will be an extra $40, at $139.99. An upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will cost $69.99, either for a boxed copy or a key card.
If you plan on picking Windows 8 up a store, you can only buy the upgrade versions. For the full version, you’ll have to stick with a download to get your hands on it.
Given the small upgrade that Windows 8 is over Windows 7, those prices aren’t reasonable, and most would agree. There’s no reason why even the full version of Windows 8 would need to cost more than $29.99. There are some nice updates, but not enough for it to be worth $99.99+. What do you think?
