Basic, yet well-executed. Available in several colors for $22.99 each comes Elago’s S5 Flex TPU case for the iPhone 5 (Amazon). It’s dead-simple, and works really well. Plus, you get a free ultra-clear screen protector, which is always appreciated.
The case itself is made of TPU, and overall is quite thin. In terms of bulk, very little is added to your device. You get a lay-on-the-table design, so if you put your iPhone display-down onto a table, the display won’t actually be touching it. You get an increased amount of grip, thanks to a soft-touch/satin coating. This also helps reduce the amount of fingerprints for the case. Quality is important to Elago, and that’s evident in this case. The cuts are hardly noticeable, and the cutouts are all perfectly sized and aligned. The fit is absolutely perfect; there’s no movement of your phone while it’s installed into the S5 Flex.
On the left side of the case, you’ll find two raised nubs to cover up your volume buttons. While it, unfortunately, does reduce the amount of feedback when you press them, you can still feel the click, so you’re not losing out on much. Right above those is the silent switch cutout. It’s small, but not too recessed, so it’s still easy to get to.
At the top, you’ll find your power button cover. Particular only to my review unit, the button cover was practically pushing down just ever so slightly onto the power button, so it made pressing the button practically touch-sensitive. However, it took some extra force to actually press it, so this isn’t much of an issue. Again, this seems to be a problem with the review sample, as Elago said that their shipping products shouldn’t have this problem.
Moving along to the bottom, you’ll find individual cutouts for pretty much everything; you have one cutout for your 3.5mm headset jack and microphone, a cutout for the Lightning port and lastly, a cutout for your speaker.
The back of the case has your camera cutout, which is quite large. Despite not having any sort of black ring around it, I haven’t experience any issues when using the LED flash for photos.
Overall, the S5 Flex by Elago is a true winner, keeping things simple and well-executed. The best part is that it adds very little bulk while still protecting the most crucial components of your fancy new iPhone 5. If yellow isn’t your thing, you can take a look at one of the many other colors options.
