A truly unique design that might not be for everyone. Welcome to the Engage Form by X-Doria (Amazon) for the iPhone 5. It’s a polycarbonate snap-on back cover, with a twist. You’ll find it listed on X-Doria’s website for around $30 in a number of different colors. Read on for the full review.
Unfortunately, I feel as though the price is just a bit too high for this case, but that’s the case with all of X-Doria’s products. However, the quality of their products makes up for most of it. Lastly, you don’t get any extras for your money. A simple screen protector, as I’ve mentioned a number of times in past reviews, would’ve been great.
At its core, this is a snap-on back cover that’s made of polycarbonate. It has a glossy feel, which adds to the amount of grip. There’s no lay-on-the-table design at all.
On the left side, your volume buttons and silent switch are completely exposed. The same goes for the top of the phone, where your power button is location, as well as at the bottom of the phone, where your 3.5mm headset jack, microphone, Lightning port, and speaker are all located. What I’m saying, is that this case doesn’t offer much in terms of protection.
The back of the case is where all of the magic happens. Aside from the large camera cutout (no issues with the LED flash when being used with photos), you’ll see that we have an “interlocking, woven” pattern that will surely have people asking you questions about the case. The lack of protection carries over to the back, due to the way the texture is and that there are a number of exposed areas for the back of your iPhone 5 to sneak thru. This is where a back protector would’ve been a nice addition.
To sum things up, this is undeniably a unique case, that offers a one-of-a-kind design. However, it’s rather high price and lack of protection may steer people away. However, if you’re a minimalist who wants something really unique without adding much bulk, this is a pretty cool way to go.
