Plenty of protection in a decent package. Priced at $54.95, the Seidio Active (with metal kickstand and holster) (Amazon) isn’t cheap, but the case and the holster both work really well. The case can be had in one of several different color choices from www.seidioonline.com.

The Active case is available in a few different configurations. If you want only the case without the metal kickstand, you can buy it for $29.95. If you want that, and the holster, it’ll cost you can extra $20 at $49.95. The case with the metal kickstand will cost you an extra $5. All told, at least you have some flexibility in terms of the Active case that you’d like to buy. Unfortunately, screen protectors aren’t included. This is incredibly disappointing, seeing as this kit is supposed to be for people whose devices go through a lot of abuse. Including a screen protector or two would’ve made a lot of sense for a kit like this. Given the expensive price, it’s even more of a disappointment.

In terms of the case itself, it’s quite good. It’s comprised of two layers. First, you have your silicone layer. Beyond that, you have your plastic layer, that has a soft-touch coating to it. This is great, because not only does it give you more grip, but it cuts down on the amount of fingerprints that would show up on the case. The silicone itself is fairly thick, but soft, so that helps in terms of shock absorption. Unfortunately, the silicone can get dirty quite easily, and it might be annoying to some users.

When both pieces are put together, you’re left with a case that’s actually quite nice on its own. You have a great lay-on-the-table design, if you’re into that. There are two volume button covers on the left side, both of which give you a great amount of feedback when pressing them. The silent switch cutout is a bit recessed, therefore it’s a little more difficult to get to. Like with the volume button covers, the power button nub offers a great amount of “click.” At the bottom of the case, everything is exposed. Lastly, on the back of the case, we have the pill-shaped camera cutout, which I’ve had no issues with the flash with.

For the metal kickstand, it works well, but only in the landscape-left orientation. If you’re watching a movie, and you want to adjust the volume, you have to pick the case up, as your volume buttons would be facing the surface that the phone is laying on.

The holster is also nice. The build quality is excellent, and I can’t imagine it breaking anytime soon, even if put through a lot of abuse. The belt clip will rotate in one of seven different positions, and it’s stiff, so that accidental rotations won’t be a problem. There’s some felt on the inside, which protects your display when in the holster, as the iPhone is facing inwards. The phone is held into the holster very securely, thanks to the clip at the top.

Overall, this is a very nice kit that Seidio has put together. The case itself is great, and so is the holster, but the overall price is a bit high, and the lack of any screen protectors is a bit of a letdown, especially given the high price of the case and the holster.
