CompuExpert offers many products from computer games to speakers. I have used many of their TeknMotion products and I have enjoyed them profusely. The Underground headphones offer a unique look and stand out in the crowd. The London Underground Headphones retail for $59.99 and can be found at CompuExpert (link) or on Amazon (link).
The Underground headphones are made from plastic material so the feel is not all there, but the build quality does not take away from the headphones. The headphones come in a color combination of glossy blue and matte red, which make the headphones’ color loud! The housing features the glossy blue and the matte red makes up the accents such as the padding.
The ear cups rotate to allow the user to find that perfect fit over the ears. One of the ear cups rotates about 80 degrees to give the headphones a DJ style feel. The padding around the headphones, under the top band and on the ear cups, are quite comfortable so I could wear them for long periods of time without discomfort.
The headphones do not fold up so they are not travel- friendly. The headphones are bulky so the inability to fold the headphones up is an issue. Also, the bulkiness causes the headphones to sit lower on my ears than expected. Essentially, the headphones sit lower than the top of my ears, but that may just be a personal issue.
The headphones offer one the ability to interchange different cables because the cables are detachable from the headphones. Therefore, if a cable frays or damages the headphones do not have to be replaced only the damaged cord.
Included in the packaging are many cable so the user can find one that fits his/ her needs. There are two braided cables, which are great for tangle- free usage and durability. There is a 48 in braided cable with microphone and a 40 in braided cable without microphone so one has different options to choose from. The headphones also come with a PC/Mac headset adapter and a phone adapter (some phones require this but many phones and mp3 player are already to go without the adapter).
The headphones are Dubstep inspired so bass is a necessity. There is a nice thumping sound that is expected of bass headphones so that is a nice feature of this headphones. Treble is present although at high frequencies the ear cups do rattle a bit, which is expected because the ear cups are not fixed in place. A sound quality test was taken with these headphones and it passed all the necessary benchmarks (link to the test). There is some sound leakage but that is not a big issue with these headphones.
Overall, these headphones do offer Dubstep quality sound, but can improve in build design. For the price, the headphones do offer great sound quality, which pays for the product itself. My main issue with this product is the inability to fold them up so they take up a lot of space on my desk. The DJ style feel and the color combination adds some personality to the headphones so they do stand out. I would recommend these headphones to someone looking for bass quality headphones that provide comfort over travel-friendly capability.
